Mastering DnB needs an engineer that knows the music and knows the rich history of the genre, The bass in DnB is absolutely the most important thing for the flow and energy of the music, this needs to be judged in a accurate room. The groove of the drums is also an essential factor and mastering can really add something to this when done right, when done wrong it can ruin a track making it clunky and not flow correctly! Drum and bass is a form of music which came in around the middle of the 1990’s, and has a tempo of usually between 150 – 180 BPM. Over the first 10 years it gathered influences from many other different styles of music and this produced many sub genres of D’n’B. It’s generally defined by it’s breakbeat style drum pattens or the Amen break as many would describe it originally from the 1969 record called “Amen, Brother” by the Winstons!
